U17s: Hamilton 9 - East Kilbride 0 (6/5/12)

Hamilton looked to bounce back after a disappointing reverse at the hands of Glasgow Girls the previous week.  Hamilton were quickly on the front foot and from a Stephanie Thomson corner it became apparent very early on that set pieces were going to cause EK difficulties as captain Kim Black finished from close range from corner number one.

Thomson grabbed number two shooting low into the corner after a super pass from Hannah O'Keane.  Deborah McLeod one of Accies top performers on the day headed home from another Thomson corner.

3-0 ahead at half time the message from the coaches was to quicken the tempo and keep it tight at the back in the second half.  Accies did just that and despite several changes and a number of positional rotations it was still very much one way traffic.  Angela Lamont made a great impact in the second half and her corner led to Hannah Preston finishing well from close range.  Another substitute to make an impact was Susan Lang who volleyed home from yet another corner again from Lamont.

Accies were not only having a field day from their own corners, as from a rare EK set piece corner, Accies broke quickly and Thomson both started and finished the counter attack in a fantastic team breakaway at breathtaking speed.

Thomson completed her own hat-trick from yet another Lamont corner. Goal number 8 capped off a great individual performance by Deborah McLeod as she mesmerised the EK defence with a delightful piece of skill and left foot finish.

Another assist from Lamont was not long in coming as she provided an excellent cross for Thomson to grab her fourth and Accies 9th of the game.

EK were glad to hear the full time whistle but can be proud of a young side who played the game in good spirit and with a determination which everyone at the club can be proud.  EK captain and goalkeeper both led by example and made sure Accies did not have it all their own way.

Manager Jim Erwin said ' It was important to put last week behind us and I think we can take quite a lot of positives out of both individual performances and how we played as a team today.  The tempo of our game had to increase in the second half and I feel we did that and tried to play the game in the right way.  I have gained a lot from my time in Holland and I hope I can take some of that into the rest of our season but change takes time but this is a definite step in the right direction.  We tried to play football out of defence and build from the back and we had good width on both flanks and we always looked a threat up front with some fantastic service from midfield.'
